  2. I waited for this book with great anticipation being a serious Beatles fan. When it arrived I found it quite incredulous. Correct me if I am wrong but is not the purpose of MUSIC to be able to read and play it?

Regardless of the technical merits you need a MAGNIFYING glass to read these musical scores. As a lead guitarist I found it impossible to read these scores without one. How the hell are you supposed to hold a magnifying glass whilst playing the guitar simultaneously?

I sent a stern email to the publishers asking exactly how they had misfired so badly and asked what they intended to do about this debacle. They replied with a “We will send your comments to the editorial team”. Exactly what would that achieve.

I then send a second email which is detailed below ….

    Hi

I wrote to you last weekend adversely commenting on your quite incredible Beatles Complete score.

I advised my intention to place a copy of my comments on Amazon, whilst also requesting a detailed explanation as to the quite ridiculous size of the music score.

I still await a reply and would appreciate one within the next 24 hours. Such crass stupidity should not and cannot be ignored. The book, although very expensive, is actually worthless as it has been produced.

If I do not receive a reply Amazon will be graced with the content of my comments for potential buyers to consider.

Hiding from your responsibilities achieves nothing, have the balls to come out, admit you have conned those who have bought your product and offer a solution i.e. give them their money back or produce a compendium that musicians can actually read and play from.

    Regards

    Peter Woodall ……..

Until such time as the producers actually consider the purpose of musical scores, I strongly advise you to keep your credit card in your wallet.

This product totally fails the “Sale of Goods Act” (in the United Kingdom)because it is “NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE” for which it was sold.

I totally wasted my money and shall not be buying, or recommending, any of their products in future. I strongly suggest that you heed my warning and refuse to buy this totally inadequate score. The Beatles – Complete Scores Rating: 1 / 5

  3. This book is probably fine if you’re not a professional musician and don’t expect it to read as an orchestral score would. Since it’s presented that way though it’s very disappointing. Working on “Fool on the Hill” I found so many errors and inappropriate repeats it was faster and more accurate (wouldn’t take much!) to transcribe the tune myself than it was to correct the mistakes in the book. Really, it’s too bad since it’s such wonderful and imaginative music. It deserves to be documented accurately and respectfully (and larger too please!) Better luck next time. Rating: 1 / 5

  4. An unrivaled work, despite slight errors throughout. HOWEVER, it is unusable for playing (are you listening, publisher Hal Leonard?). I had the humiliating experience of being asked to leave a major photocopying chain for making enlarged copies – copyright infringement. Musicians, buy the book only if you want expensive filler for your bookshelf. Rating: 1 / 5

  5. You pick it up and think, wow!, this is great. Then you read a couple of pages and realize you can get better stuff for free off the internet. Here is what you can expect:
    1. Pages are way too small. You’ll be flipping endlessly just doing one song.
    2. Font is way too small. Invest in a high-powered magnifying glass if you plan on reading it. Don’t even think about reading it in dim light.
    3. Font is some goofy script and often illegible. Couldn’t they just use arial?
    4. Mistakes abound.

About the only good thing I can say is that they usually get you close enough that you can figure it out. But at this price, it should be accurate.
Hal Leonard, shame on you. Rating: 2 / 5
